Colored True

Moon (Waxing Gibbous phase)

We perceive the Moon's ethereal glow in its brilliant white hue, created by the reflection of the Sun's full spectrum of colors. As the lunar orb waxes and wanes in the night sky, its appearance shifts with the changing angle of sunlight, casting a delicate play of light and shadow across its surface. In this way, the Moon seems to radiate its ethereal light, captivating the eye of the viewer and evoking a sense of otherworldly beauty.

In pursuit of capturing the true colors of the lunar surface, I embarked on a mission to shoot over 100 images and fuse them into a single, stunning hybrid HDR visualization. Through this careful process, I could reduce the glare and brightness of the Sun's rays, revealing the rich, subtle hues of the Moon that are otherwise invisible to the naked eye. The result is this mesmerizing portrait of the Moon in all its true, unadulterated beauty.

As I gazed upon the final image, I was reminded of the Japanese film "Color Me True," also known as "Tonight." This romantic fantasy tells the tale of Kenji, a filmmaker living in our colorful world, and Miyuki, a fictional heroine from a black-and-white film. In a magical twist, Miyuki jumps from the screen into Kenji's world of color. Then, the two embark on a captivating love story.

Just like the film's heroine, this photographic masterpiece reveals the hidden colors of the Moon as it leaps from a monochromatic world into a stunning display of full-spectrum hues. The Moon has long been associated with love and fantasy. This piece perfectly captures its mysterious, otherworldly beauty and true colors.
