The Gate Keeper

On my first visit to Chicago, I aimed to capture the beauty of the most charming lighthouses in North America. Arriving at Navy Pier on the shoreline of Lake Michigan in the Streeterville neighborhood of Chicago, I immediately noticed the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse as I strolled along the pier.
This vintage landmark was nestled among a barrier of rocks, standing tall and proud to warn ships of the harbor's proximity. Its charm was captivating, and I knew I had to find a way to capture its beauty. The day was sunny, clear, and calm, with little wind and few boats or ships around, making it the perfect opportunity for an aerial shot.
Unpacking my drone, I flew it to get a bird's eye view of the scene. From above the waters, I framed the lighthouse as the center of my shot, and its rocky surroundings took on a whole new dimension. The drone's point of view allowed me to see the way the rocks seemed to stretch out towards the horizon, disappearing into the vast expanse of Lake Michigan.
The play of light and the refracted colors created a stunning contrast in the shot, highlighting the water's vibrant green and aqua hues, contrasting with the rocks below. I was delighted with the moment and the way the sun's rays shone down, creating a dazzling display of hues. Finally, I snapped the photo that would become -The Gate Keeper-.
The photograph perfectly captured the magic of the Chicago Harbor Lighthouse in its vintage charm and stunning surroundings, and I felt lucky to have caught them in such a unique way. This gorgeous lighthouse serves as a protector, warning ships of danger and guiding them to safety. It is a steadfast presence, standing tall and proud amid the rocky surroundings.
In many ways, it reminded me of my dad, standing pretty steady and robust, protecting the family, always looking out for us, and ready to offer guidance. It was then that I realized that each of us, at some point in our lives, has to become like the lighthouse, standing guard over our loved ones, offering protection, guidance, and support through all of life's storms.
