Journey’s Prelude

As the sky began to lighten with the approaching dawn, I made my way to the charming fishing pier I had photographed just a few months before. Located in the small town of Lauderdale by the Sea in Florida, this pier was a tranquil oasis in a bustling world. This time, I was determined to capture the first moments of activity on the pier as the early risers and fishers gathered at the end of the dock to catch their first prey of the day.

Because of the low light conditions and my intent to capture the calm, relaxing movement of the waves, a long exposure shot was the perfect technique to use on this occasion. As I set up my camera, I was struck by the unique light and colors of this moment, known as "Twilight." The artificial illumination of the pier was mixed with the warm hues of the sky, signaling the end of the night and the beginning of a new day.

Even though I arrived very early in the morning, I could tell there was already activity at the end of the pier. The fishers' lights had arrived even earlier than me, a testament to their dedication and love of their craft. They were preparing their lines, checking their gear, and chatting with each other in hushed tones. It was a scene of quiet excitement and anticipation.

As I snapped the shutter, I felt I got a picture of special meaning - a prelude to the dawn of a new day. Looking at the final image, I couldn't help but feel a sense of hope and possibility. The upcoming rising sun, the bustling activity on the pier, and the calm and serene waves all spoke to me of the endless opportunities that stand before us each new day.

We can find several examples in our daily lives, like the fishers. These early risers hustle day after day, while we may notice some of them jogging, biking, or driving to work. However, some, like the fishers, are already working hard and hustling in search of the best possible journey's prelude. They cast their lines and see what they might catch on a new day. And just as the dawn brings a sense of renewal and possibilities, so too do the new opportunities present to us each day.

So let us embrace the twilight prelude and all that it represents. In doing so, we open ourselves to a world of endless possibilities and all the beauty and wonder it may hold.
